COMMEMORATION OF THE 1 MAY 2003, BUS DISASTER

Today the Executive Mayor Cllr Lindiwe Makhalema and the Council of Dihlabeng hosted a delegation from the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, led by the Executive Mayor Alderman Mangaliso Mafika. The purpose of their visit to our shores was to commemorate the 2003 May-Day Bus Disaster, where 51(fifty one) workers from their municipality lost their lives when the bus they were travelling in sunk into the Sol Plaatje Dam, then known as the Soulspoort Dam. Accompanying Alderman Mafika were members of his MAYCO, councillors, COSATU/SAMWU representatives, survivors and family members of the deceased.
