    BETHLEHEM AIR SHOW 2014

    “Once again the sky will catch fire as Central South Africa’s only biggest Air Show comes to Bethlehem”.

    EXECUTIVE MAYOR: MR. TJHETANE MOFOKENG

    Executive Mayor of Dihlabeng Local Municipality, Honourable Councillor Tjhetane Mofokeng wishes to make a call on all Free Staters and the entire community of Dihlabeng Local Municipality to come out in numbers to support the 2014 Bethlehem Air Show, this year’s show is important as it is being held during the 150th anniversary of our beautiful town.

    As part of the Bethlehem 150thAnniversary Celebrations an Air Show will be held in our beautiful town of Bethlehem on the 19thJuly 2014. We will be celebrating our unity in diversity…building a more inclusive community, united behind a common programme to achieve prosperity for all. We also seek to debunk the misconception that the Aviation industry is the preserve of only the white community. Our country’s strategic plan, the National Development Plan (NDP) states that “to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality, the economy must grow in ways that benefit all South Africans”.

    The Bethlehem Air Show has been held annually since 1999 and has been growing from strength to strength ever since. The Dihlabeng Local Municipality and the Free State Provincial Government are the main sponsors of the event. Other sponsors and participants include ABSA, Kia Motors, Abi, SAB and Dihlabeng Mall.

    This year’s air show will boast of 30 different planes that will be on display including the Boeing B737200. This year’s show will also have participation of helicopters such as the Air-Wolf helicopter, working on Fire helicopter and there will be air display of the biggest flag of RSA in continuation of 20 years of Freedom and Democracy. There will be stalls displaying various local produces and local food venders will also be having stall from where they will be selling food and beverages. Parents are requested to bring along their children as there will be lots of entertainment for them.

    Dihlabeng Local Municipality is continuously presenting opportunities to its community with the objective of raising the profile of the Free State Province. These initiatives also help to facilitate and promote tourism in the region they encourage and foster engagement of young people in creative pursuits and entrepreneurship.

    By strengthening the social cohesion, stimulating relationships with the public and private sector, events like the Bethlehem Air show, make an important contribution to the economic development of the Free State province and Dihlabeng Local Municipality in particular and promote a positive image of the Province.
