STATEMENT ON THE UNTIMELY PASSING AWAY OF MR NICK DURANDT

On Friday the 21st April, our country lost through a motorbike accident a towering figure in the boxing fraternity. Our pain is compounded by the fact that the accident took place within our municipality, on the road between Clarens and Bethlehem.

Mr Durandt’s contribution to boxing is unparalleled and unequalled. During the thirty-odd years, he spent in the ring, he managed to produce many world champions including Cassius “The Hitman” Baloyi, Isaac “Angel” Hlatshwayo, Simphiwe “Golden Master” Nongqoyi, Malom “The Stone” Klaasen to mention but a few.

On behalf of our municipality and all its residents, we join the rest of the country in passing our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, loved ones and all the supporters of the sport he dearly loved and dedicated his life to.
